http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/2859.htmSynopsisWith the fall of the COH, most of Africa has become a chaotic, tumultuous place. Corruption, anarchy, and brutality characterize most of the former COH. The region is rife with conflict east to west as power vacuums are looking to be filled. Lawlessness has ravage most of the land and there is little influence one way or the other. Rich in resources, the former COH is a place where everyone wants to exploit, from whole countries to private corporations from around the world. The likely candidate to help quell this is the United States of Brink, an African nation that coexisted alongside the COH; albeit, uneasily at times.
Ethiopia is just one of those dangerous regions. It borders the already lawless Somalia, which is part of the United States of Brink. Rich in its own resources, Ethiopia is, like all of its neighbors and all of the former COH, in the midst of internal conflict where factions and groups vie for power through corruption, fear, brutality, and plain war. Because it shares a border with Somalia, the liklihood of its annexation by the United States of Brink is rather high. Unfortunately, plenty of other groups have gotten there first and are working to carve up the country and sell it off to the highest bidder. Ethiopia is full of groups that vie for power. Because it was ruled by the COH for so long, which was not a democracy, Ethiopia has little experience with democracy whatsoever and because of this, it is even more worse off than it could be in any other situation.
Unbeknownst to all parties involved, the Empire has begun a clandestine policy throughout the former COH to support destabilization. The goal of this is to make the territory next to impossible to annex for any foreign power and also to put pressure on Somalia to push its weapons elsewhere. Many of the weapons illegal sold in Somalia have wound up in the hands of rebels in the Amazonian Control Territory (ACT) and Mato Grosso, where the Empire maintains a loose base of power that could be lost at any time. Mato Grosso remains uncontrolled by the Empire and because of that, it is impossible to fully stop the flow of arms into the ACT. In Ethiopia especially, the Empire is clandestinely funding mercenaries and private corporations to keep the situation as chaotic as possible. Additionally, it is preparing the country for an eventual black war against Somali smugglers and criminals, which directly threaten the national security of the Empire. Due to the inability of the United States of Brink, the Empire has sought to take matters into its own hands. The tactics being employed by these groups are far from respectable and the Ministry of Intelligence funnels millions of dollars each and every month to these groups, keeping them strong and well supplied.
GroupsGovernmental Forces: These are the majority group, making up approximately 40% of the populace. By contrast, they control less than 25% of the land in Ethiopia. They are corrupt and definitely not genuine. They are out for themselves and hold power through force and corruption. They control the large majority of the military and they get along through an uneasy truce between all parties that allows them to prosper independently of one another and keeps everyone looking the other way. They are out, essentially, to rape the country and take everything they can for themselves.
Rebel Forces: This is the second largest group, making up approximately 35% of the populace. They wholly oppose the governmental forces but for reasons that are far from genuine themselves. They want to remove the governmental forces from power simply to pilfer and profit for themselves. They are scattered throughout the country but they have influence in at least 40% of the country.
Civilians: These make up the other 25% of the country. They are neither governmental nor rebel in nature and are simply caught up in the middle of the situation. However, they can be swayed one way or the other if the offer is right or if the fear is strong enough.
Criminals: This is an umbrella group for the vast amount of criminals, smugglers, warlords, etc. who have come to Ethiopia to take advantage of the situation and grind out some hard currency for themselves. They bribe and support both sides of the conflict but they prefer to have little contact with either group unless it's absolutely necessary for their own means.
Mercenaries: This is a group that makes up dozens of factions. These are mainly soldiers from the Hirgizstanian military who have deserted but they include many different nationalities. The one common factor is most of them are ex-military and they are trained as such. They operate on their own for their own motives and for whatever bidder has contracted them, including all of the groups above. They work for private corporations who are looking to exploit the resources in Ethiopia or for actual countries.
RP Goals & AimsTo dynamically create a war inside this country whereby a vast amount of players can contribute through many ways as well as to properly set an example of a thorough and good RP, using influences from
Land of Sin,
Far Cry 2,
Infernal, and many others. It would be optimal to have a single player control the governmental forces, another player control the rebel forces. Criminals and mercs could be played by multiple players who each have their own groups. In a way, it would be an almost copy of Tristan Providence's claim RP for his Midwest USA territory whereby factions fought against each other although they differed ideologically more than anything else. The dynamics of this could remain the same with the differing variables. The goal would be to produce a very detailed and very in-depth RP using a variety of elements not usually seen on NS at all. It would be primarily Earth II but it would invite non-Earth II players to be criminals and mercenaries. A proper guideline would be given to them and it would ultimately hope to bring more attention and players to Earth II.
So what do you guys think? Is this doable? Obviously, the big approval for it would come from USB but really I wanted to propose it to everyone as sort of a group effort. Now that we're on the new boards we don't have Land of Sin anymore, which was an excellent RP that Hirgizstan and USB had contracted. It had amazing character development and a plot that was truly unique. I wanted to help revive that in a way and get it on here. So thoughts?
