Did you see it?

I did, the special effects were amah-zing. The 3-D was cool too, and was used subtly to give depth to the visuals. Plotwise, its basically Dances with Wolves in space, but it was fairly entertaining. I'd say they've got a best special effects Oscar in the bag already.

Hmmm I disagree; I would say that the plot of the movie was more along the lines of a play on the US expansion west and the driving out of the Native Americans. I much enjoyed it in fact.

Dances With Wolves is in a totally different category than Avatar. Avatar is all "OMG US BE INVADING TAKING UR RESOURCES FUCKING UP YOUR SHIT" whereas Dances With Wolves is a totally different concept all together. Yes it has to deal with Manifest Destiny and the expansion of the United States to the west through Indian Territory but it also has a lot to do with a man's journey and what not. It's far deeper than OMG CGI PEW PEW PEW!

Which was part of Avatar too methinks, with Sulley's really long sequence of learning to be a Na'vi to gain their trust, mating with the chiefs daughter, uniting the tribes etc.

Avatar is Pocahontas, with the names crossed out and replaced. Grandmother willow becomes the tree of souls or whatever, the main guy is John Smith, the Na'vi girl Pocahontas, naturally. Humans go to a "New World" to obtain a precious mineral. Come on, Cameron just used Pocahontas but made things all sparkly. Oh, and it looks as if he hired Bungie to design his ships.

Well, the tech WAS a helluva lot more realistic then most sci-fi movies, so props for that.

Still looks like a rip-off of Halo. When I first saw commercials for Avatar I thought they were finally putting out the Halo Movie.

Halo? am I the only one who say Starship Troopers The Roughneck Chronicles or ever played Tiberian Sun? lol
If you watch the second campaign of SST you will see the exact same vehicle being uses 3rd campaign as well.

anyway, the thing the movie reminded me of was Pocahontas in space I mean the epic lets band together thing was not from the movie but they did such a poor job of that IMO it was almost as though they added it as an after thought... "lets have them come together, ok we only need 5 minutes to show that"

I really liked it, the end battle reminded me of The Battle of Little Big Horn where my people KICKED ASS against the evil American pigs. lol

Yes, I am Sioux by the way.
